Croatia offers the most comprehensive Mediterranean sailing experience with its 1,200 islands, challenging winds, and endless med-mooring opportunities. Greece's Saronic Gulf provides excellent catamaran sailing with gentler conditions, making it ideal for those specifically wanting cat experience.

Med-mooring (or 'stern-to') is backing your yacht into a harbor wall or dock, then securing with an anchor or mooring line from the bow. It's essential for Mediterranean sailing where bow-to docking is rare. Yes, you'll practice this extensively in both Croatia and Greece.

Both are excellent but different. Croatia offers monohull sailing with variable Bora/Maestral winds, extensive med-mooring practice, and 8 days including wine tours and medieval towns. Greece offers catamaran sailing in the Meltemi, shorter island hops, and iconic destinations like car-free Hydra. Choose Croatia for comprehensive skills, Greece for catamaran focus.

The Mediterranean sailing season runs July through September. Croatia courses run July-September, while Greece courses are concentrated in July when Meltemi conditions are ideal. Outside this window, most charter companies and sailing schools close for winter.

The ICC (International Certificate of Competence) and IPC (International Proficiency Certificate) are internationally recognized sailing credentials required to charter in many European countries. Once you complete ASA 104 with us, you're eligible to apply for these credentials.

Mediterranean courses offer ASA 101 through ASA 104, plus the ASA 114 catamaran endorsement in Greece. Croatia courses focus on monohull skills through ASA 104. All ASA 104 graduates qualify for ICC/IPC application.

Variable and challenging. Croatia experiences the cold Bora (northeast) and reliable afternoon Maestral (northwest). Greece gets the Meltemi — strong northerly winds that build through summer afternoons. These conditions build real seamanship skills.

Generally yes. Variable winds, tight harbor maneuvers, and the technical med-moor make Mediterranean sailing more challenging than the consistent trade winds of the Caribbean. This is why many sailors do Caribbean first, then graduate to the Med.
