Caribbean – consistent conditions, warm water, shorter flights from the US, and the BVI is widely considered the world's best beginner sailing ground.
Which is more expensive overall?
Course prices are similar. Caribbean tends to have higher food/drink costs but lower flight costs for US-based sailors. Mediterranean has cheaper restaurants but pricier flights.
Do I need different certifications?
No – ASA certifications are recognised worldwide. The same ASA 101 works in both the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.
When should I visit each?
Caribbean: November-April for best conditions. Mediterranean: June-September. The seasons complement each other perfectly – sail the Caribbean in winter, Med in summer.
