BVI’s are open baby!  July 2021 Update

The British Virgin Islands are open. Vaccinations are ongoing. Moreover the islands are as beautiful as ever, less crowded, and worth a visit.
We have answered the most commonly asked questions below to help ease your travel to and from the islands.

Which website should I follow for entry protocols?

Follow this link for all entry protocols, fees and to register: https://bvigateway.bviaa.com/

Can I enter via ferry from St Thomas?

Yes. There will be only one daily round trip ferry service for this initial period. Further, ferry passengers arriving and departing the British Virgin Islands must reserve a ticket with the scheduled ferry operator through their booking portal. The new international ferry passenger schedule is as follows:

Any subsequent changes to the ferry schedule will be announced.

You can take a ferry (see above) or fly into Tortola direct; the airport is the omnivorously named Beef Island (EIS)
The following airlines are flying to the island from St. Thomas or Puerto Rico:

Can you recommend a travel agent who can help?

Certainly! Email: [email protected]com

Do I need COVID insurance?

Yes. All eligible travelers arriving in the British Virgin Islands must obtain Medical/Travel Assistance or Insurance with COVID-19 cover before entry. Check out https://www.auraassistance.com/bvi/

Are there taxis at the airport?

Yes. On arrival and after testing, you will be directed to an assigned government taxi that will take you to your boat. Taxi is at your own expense.

What if I’m Fully vaccinated?

As of July 12th  2021, fully vaccinated persons traveling from overseas a) require a RT-PCR test or an approved rapid antigen test within five (5) days of travel. b) must provide satisfactory evidence of being fully vaccinated, c) receive a BVI Gateway Traveller Authorisation Certificate at a cost of $50, and d) be tested for COVID-19 on the day of arrival with an approved antigen SARS Cov-2 test ( day zero) and quarantine until a negative test is received. Continue to wear your face mask while at your facility and sanitise hands regularly.

If I’m not vaccinated, how many days do I quarantine?

The day you arrive (“day zero”) plus 7 days, then you take another test. You will receive your results approximately 24hrs after testing.
With all this said, we highly recommend getting vaccinated prior to entering the BVI.

What happens if I test positive?

You will have to quarantine for two weeks at government-assigned facilities and at your own expense. This is why it is necessary to obtain COVID insurance.

Can I sail, swim or snorkel while in quarantine?

Yes, after you receive your “day zero results”, you can sail, swim and snorkel at designated quarantine zones. You will also only be allowed a maximum distance of 30 feet (10 meters) away from your vessel if you wish to swim during your quarantine period.
